Art That Swims
Welcome to the home of Bill Moran’s LetterFish. I combine vintage letterpress typography with fish to make fantastical creatures for every taste. Using translucent and metallic inks on archival paper, the layers of letters add up to a unique hybrid of the fishy and typographic kingdoms.
I’m happy to announce I was commissioned to create these limited edition prints to exhibit in the Vatican Library as part of their 2026/27 exhibition. Learn more here.

The Angler Fish is the dangler debonnaire. With one wave of its wispy S, unsuspecting diners find themselves dinner.
↑
The Monk Fish is prized for its ampersand tail. While scuttering along the sea bottom it scoops up lettery scraps & plump parentheses.
↑
The shimmering LetterShark is a shape shifter. At first its fins spell something, then it wanders off beneath the waves.

The wondrous whale shark murmurs typographic mantras under the marbled Cs. As the largest of the LetterFish it lingers for a spell then goes for a deep dive.
